Take care of yourself, be healthy, and always believe you
Self-Care, a poem
Below is an awesome poem written by Elizabeth Trondsen.
I discovered it on Voices Net.org.
There are people who make a huge thing about how difficult self-care is and how it takes too much time away from the important stuff. This short poem breaks it all down into very simple languaging and brings clarity right to the point. In her poem, Elizabeth demonstrates how necessary it is to invest in yourself if your desire is to have community around you.
I think Elizabeth expresses exactly what we all think and feel about our lives and dealing with the big outside world.
Every person who is a caretaker needs to read this and have it posted someplace as a reminder that self-care is not an option – it is required if you want to give your best to the rest.
Thank you, Elizabeth for saying what we all needed to hear! Your well constructed poem gets right to the point of what Self-Care is and why it is so important.

Until I am comfortable with myself…
I can’t be any good to anyone else.
Until I can be happy alone….
I cannot be a friend that’s true.
Until I can love myself as I am…
I’m not ready to love you.
Until I see I don’t need you to complete me…
I cannot be all I can be.
Until I let God nurture the wounded child within me…
I can never be free.
